Ready, set, go!

The Garden of Eden neighborhood proved they had the stamina to keep the race going even when COVID-19 put a damper on the 16th annual 5K Fun Run. Residents quickly stepped into action to make sure the standing tradition continued, virtually.

“We decided to go forward with the fun run even though we were impacted with the pandemic. It was the 16th run, and since our theme is Push Thru, we added COVID-19, – Push Thru COVID-19. We will not let anything stop us,” said Garden of Eden neighborhood leaders Brenda Sanders-Wise and Trina Sanders.

Moving the fun run to virtual was completed by a one-woman production team and was received with great success. Participants registered for the June 13 event and completed 5Ks on their own. They submitted their times via Facebook and received recognition on social media.

“Our favorite aspects of the run were the honor system used to post times, true professional runners who reached out to support, everyone coming together to make the run a success and the mayor’s continued participation in our fun run,” said Sanders-Wise and Sanders. Mayor Betsy Price won top prize in her age category as well as the coveted Fastest Mayor Award.

The Garden of Eden Neighborhood Association was able to exceed its $5,000 goal with registration fees and donations. The organization is raising funds to continue to preserve the history of the community.

The Garden of Eden Neighborhood Association is designated a historic district. Learn more about the history of this Fort Worth neighborhood.
