The Summer Creek neighborhood was recently overcome by bears of all shapes and sizes. They were found in homes, hanging from light fixtures and even sleeping in cars.
No need to worry: the bears were of the stuffed teddy bear variety. They were tracked and found by families in the neighborhood, and no one was harmed.
Inspired by the book, “We’re Going on a Bear Hunt” by Michael Rosen, the Summer Creek Homeowners Association (HOA) hosted a bear hunt in the neighborhood. Since so many kids are out of school and many parents are working from home during this time, the HOA wanted to find a fun and creative way to bring families together while practicing social distancing.
The bear hunt began with residents placing a stuffed teddy bear in their windows, on porches or in cars. Once the bears were on display, neighbors out on their walks or bike rides could search for them. Kids of all ages – and adults! – were excited to participate.
To make the bear hunt even more enticing, neighborhood maps were distributed and houses showcasing bears could be checked off. Once the maps were turned in, first-, second- and third-place awards were handed out to the neighbors with the most bears found. Winners received a gift card to a new business in the area, Andy’s Frozen Custard. A sweet treat for keeping the neighborhood safe from all those bears!
