Some of the world's top table tennis players will compete in Fort Worth in December.

USA Table Tennis, the governing body for table tennis in the United States, has named Fort Worth as the host city for the 2019 U.S. Open at the Fort Worth Convention Center (FWCC) Dec. 17-21.

Seamaster table tennis championships are held around the world in locations such as Qatar, Budapest, Hong Kong and Stockholm.

“We are excited about the opportunity to work with USA Table Tennis to create a championship experience for athletes and fans while showcasing all Fort Worth has to offer,” said Jason Sands, director of sports marketing at Visit Fort Worth and Fort Worth Sports. “Table tennis competitors and their fans are accustomed to visiting world-class cities, and we are confident they will feel right at home in Fort Worth.”

Several of the world’s top players will compete, providing a preview of the 2020 Olympics.

“We are delighted to bring the 2019 U.S. Open to Fort Worth. It is important for us to create a life experience beyond the competition, and we know Fort Worth provides us with such a rich culture and great hospitality,” said Virginia Sung, chief executive officer for USA Table Tennis.

Visit Fort Worth and the FWCC were awarded the title of host after a highly competitive bidding process. The championships are expected to book more than 3,000 rooms at downtown hotels and equate to more than $1.2 million in direct spending.
