Fort Worth PD's Explorer program earns statewide awards

Officer Rebecca Woodward and the Fort Worth Police Explorers were recognized at City Hall recently.

Officer Rebecca Woodward and the Fort Worth Police Explorers were honored by the City Council for their performance at the 2019 Texas Law Enforcement Explorer Advisors Association competition in July.

Woodward received the William H. Spurgeon III Award, the highest recognition for individuals and organizations contributing significant leadership to the Explorer program.

Team awards:

  • Team 1, first place, arrest, search and seizure.
  • Team 2, first place, arrest, search and seizure.
  • First place, bomb threat.
  • First place, misdemeanor traffic stops.
  • Second place, domestic disturbance.

Individual awards:

  • Enrique Alvarez and Olivia Hernandez received scholarships.
  • Cecilio Castillo, first place NEVO course and third place, bike obstacle course.
  • Christian Ochoa, first place, male Explorer physical agility.
  • Officer Tyler Haines, first place, male adviser physical agility.
  • Officer Andrew Smith, law enforcement vehicle best in show.

Exploring is a program designed by Learning for Life (a subdivision of the Boy Scouts of America) for males and females aged 14-20 interested in a career in law enforcement. The program provides a link between the academic environment and the real world.
