Several efforts are planned to make sure the Fort Worth Botanic Garden remains available to everyone.

The City Council is scheduled to vote at 7 p.m. June 25 on a plan that will continue to make the Fort Worth Botanic Garden accessible to all residents.

A task force recommended a general admission fee for the Fort Worth Botanic Garden that will help improve the visitor experience at the 85-year-old garden. The task force, made up of Fort Worth residents and stakeholders, recommended charging $12 for adult admission, $6 for children 6-15 and $10 for senior citizens; children under 6 are free. These admission fees replace the fee currently being charged for the Japanese Garden and the Conservatory.

City Council has already approved the admission fees that will go into effect July 19.

Last November, the City Council also approved these annual Botanic Garden membership levels:

  • Family (two adults and children under 18 years old living in the household), $100.
  • Lone Star Family (same as above), $30.
  • Individual (one person), $50.
  • Dual (two adults), $80.
  • Contributing (family plus one additional adult per visit), $200.
  • Supporting (family plus two additional adults per visit), $500.
  • Sponsor (family plus two adults per visit and two event tickets), $1,000.

The Botanical Research Institute of Texas is selling memberships to the garden, with net revenues split between the Botanic Garden and BRIT.

The task force also recommended a number of programs that will help ensure the popular amenity remains available to all:

  • Lone Star Card discounts (SNAP/WIC Card). Discounted annual family membership would cost $30, or $2.50 per month. Includes reciprocal admission to other gardens. The Museums4All program allows family visits for $1 admission per adult member; children under 18 enter for free.
  • Botanic Garden Pass. Free family passes available in Fort Worth Public Library branches, including the option to check them out electronically.
  • Sponsored field trips. Sponsored third-grade field trips for FWISD schools. One free family pass would be included per student.
  • Blue Star Program. Free admission to families of active military members Memorial Day through Labor Day.
  • Community-based free family passes. Free family admission vouchers would be distributed to locations that specialize in meeting the needs of underserved populations.

The City Council will vote on these programs during their June 25 meeting.
