Provide veterans a home for the holidays

The Fort Worth community is embarking on an ambitious goal — to end veteran homelessness in 100 days. Several community organizations are working together to find 100 veterans living on the streets a permanent place to call home.

“Nobody who has served our country deserves to be homeless,” Mayor Betsy Price said. “We hope everyone will help us reach our goal and provide a warm shelter to our most deserving residents this winter. If we can get them in homes, more than likely we can get them in jobs and become productive members of society.”

There are many ways to help. If you’re a landlord or property owner, consider giving a veteran a second chance by renting to them. Businesses, community groups and individuals can collect welcome-home baskets to help veterans establish their new home.

The campaign runs through Dec. 21. Donations are accepted online.
