Fort Worth to represent United States at Italian sports games

A delegation from Fort Worth will join nearly 4,000 other athletes at the Tricolore Games.

Fort Worth will send nearly 100 student-athletes and coaches to the sixth annual Tricolore Youth Sports Games in Reggio Emilia, Italy, July 5-14.

The games will help promote the youth of America to thousands of athletes around the world who are participating in the event.

“Living with and competing against nearly 4,000 young athletes from around the world, our sports ambassadors will undoubtedly learn that they have much more in common with the other participants than what separates them,” said Johnny Campbell, chairman of the board of Fort Worth Sister Cities. “These are the types of experiences that help kids shape their understanding and acceptance of people from other cultures.”

The student-athletes and coaches participating in the games will live in an Olympic-style village with athletes from 30 other countries. The living quarters will give the youth of Fort Worth a chance to represent not only their city, but the United States, through sportsmanship and goodwill.

The Tricolore Games are held in Fort Worth’s first sister city, Reggio Emilia, Italy, every four years. Fort Worth will be the only city to represent the United States in the games. Fort Worth athletes will compete in girls’ volleyball, girls’ and boys’ tennis, girls’ and boys’ swimming, and four boys’ baseball teams.
