New water reclamation facility permit application administratively complete; public notice published

Posted June 29, 2018

The permit review process is officially in progress for the planned Mary’s Creek Water Reclamation Facility.

On May 11, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) notified Fort Worth that the application was administratively complete, and the technical review would begin. The city estimates this process could take from 18 months to three years to complete.

Fort Worth recently published the required public notice information in both the Star-Telegram and La Estrella classified advertising sections. The purpose of the notice is to inform interested parties how to make comments, request a hearing or receive updates on this application from TCEQ.

Fort Worth applied on March 23 to TCEQ for a Texas Pollutant Discharge Elimination System permit to construct a new facility at 11091 Chapin Road. The application seeks a discharge permit for an initial phase of 10 million gallons a day with an expansion to 15 million gallons a day by 2030. The site for the new facility is across Mary’s Creek and north of the Waste Management landfill on I-30 West.

The notice and permit application are available online. A hard copy of the permit application is available for review in the Water Department offices at City Hall, 200 Texas St.

Representatives from the water utility are available to meet with neighborhood associations, organizations or interested parties to discuss the project. Email or call 817-392-8253 to schedule a presentation.
