Citizen foresters plant street trees in a Fort Worth neighborhood.

Registration is now open for citizen forester training. Become an expert volunteer and a steward of the urban forest.

The citizen forester program is sponsored by a partnership between the Cross Timbers Urban Forestry Council and the City of Fort Worth’s Forestry Section. Once the training is completed, volunteer time is focused on publicly-owned trees such as those in parks, along streets or in school yards. Volunteer activities might include planting, pruning, mulching, preparing inventories and evaluating storm damage. Citizen foresters also deliver presentations to groups wishing to learn more about tree benefits and maintenance.

Training sessions begin March 21 and will be held once monthly, on the third Wednesday (except November, which will be on the second Wednesday) for the rest of the year, for a total of 10 six-hour sessions. Each session will start at 9 a.m. and end at 4 p.m. and will be a mix of classroom and hands-on training.
