Residents in far north Fort Worth will soon have new recreational facilities at Northwest Community Park, located near 8575 Blue Mound Road. Currently, construction bids are under review and the contract is expected to be awarded in the next few weeks.

A competition level athletic complex with four ballfields is being built along with supporting infrastructure. Two youth baseball fields, one adult baseball field and one adult softball field round out the four competition facilities.

New park amenities include a park access drive, concrete parking areas, and installation of electrical and water utilities. Scoreboards, security lighting, T-ball backstops, bleachers, concrete trail, site furnishings and sod for the ballfields are also being added.

Funding for the project comes from the 2014 bond program and a $1 million grant from Texas Parks and Wildlife.

Construction is expected to last six months, with additional time needed to allow the field turf to get established. That means fields should be ready for action in summer 2018.
