Samuel Werschky named assistant director in Transportation & Public Works

Samuel Werschky, a 21-year U.S. Navy veteran with more than 17 years of experience leading diverse and complex public works and engineering operations, has been named assistant director in the city’s Transportation & Public Works Department.

He will be responsible for overseeing traffic management operations.

Previously the director of public works for Naval Air Station Fort Worth, Joint Reserve Base, Werschky led public works operations dispersed over three states. He provided engineering and construction management, capital planning, acquisition strategy, facilities management, real estate services, energy management, environmental compliance, and delivery of utility services.

Werschky was also previously the deputy director of public works at Presidential Retreat Camp David. He led public works operations at the Navy’s largest medical complex and was a program manager executing a high-profile construction program that provided high-level operational and training facilities throughout the capital of Afghanistan.

Werschky is a registered professional engineer in Texas and earned a bachelor of science in engineering degree and a master of engineering degree, both from Texas A&M University.

“Sam has years of experience in public works and has shown repeated success with large and complex projects,” Transportation & Public Works Director Doug Wiersig said. “We are excited to have a professional with such a strong background join our team.”
